The first step is to make a plan so go online, look at the pictures and get an idea of what you want your home to look like when you are done. This step will also include doing research on pricing so you can start to form a budget. This budget will keep you on track throughout the remodeling process. Typically when remodeling it requires permits to be pulled so make sure to ask your contractor to check with your municipality to make sure you have the permits that are required. Once this is taken care of you can start ordering necessary materials (drywall, doors, windows, ect.)

Once materials have arrived it time to start the demolition. If any walls are being moved\removed this happens now as well as framing for any additional walls. Also any doors and windows that are being replaced now is a good time for them to be replaced.

Now that the walls have been opened up it’s time to take care of any plumbing, electrical, or any other essential repairs.  Once the essential work has been taken care of behind the walls, it’s time to start putting up drywall. Then tape and texture is put on the drywall. This can be a tedious, time consuming process but it will all be worth it in the end.

The next step is paint and flooring. This is where you get to be creative, choosing your favorite colors and flooring. If you plan to sell the home you should do some on the flooring and paint that will appeal to potential buyers. For paint as a general rule it’s better to go with lighter neutral colors. If you plan to keep the home you can choose whatever suits you best.

After the floors have been installed, it’s time for cabinets, counters and backsplashes. This will really start to bring your space together and turn your plan into reality. But you aren’t done yet because you still have some finishing touches to take care of (trim, light fixtures, final touch up paint, ect.)
